I qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in July 2005 and have worked in small animal practice ever since. I love all aspects of my work, but particularly enjoy surgery and emergency medicine. I have an interest in complimentary medicine and also have a degree in western herbal medicine.
I understand perfectly, the strong and important bond owners have with their pets and always do my very best for each patient. It is a great privilege to be a vet and to meet and work with such wonderful patients. It is also an honour to be able to form such close bonds with my patients and clients who I truly care about.
When not working I love being active, the great outdoors and travelling to places off the beaten track! I am also very committed to animal rights.
Incredibly sadly I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to my beloved dog Jed on 15th August 2022. Jed, a rescue dog, (see The Practice Legacy/Head of Security) was literally by my side day and night for 15 years. He was beyond adored, thoroughly spoilt, led a very charmed life and was definitely the boss of me!
Jed was an extremely important and much loved member of the team. He was one of the hardest working members of staff and took his role as head of security very seriously, however it is a role he obviously found quite tiring as he was often found asleep on the job!! Jed, a rescue dog lead an extremely spoilt and charmed life under the care of Dr Burns. His interests were walking, playing, being chased, having a cuddle, eating, snoozing (generally with his head on a pillow and sprawled out on a bed) and wagging his tail!!!!! Jed was the most amazing lad with the most wonderful spirit and beautiful soul.
Jed fought a courageous battle overcoming some serious illnesses and undergoing a number of major surgeries. A massive void exists without him. Jed is missed every second of every day. We want to create the most amazing legacy in his honour and this is what we intend to do at Jed and Friends’ Veterinary Surgery. We intend to create the most special veterinary surgery, where clients know we will always act completely in our patient’s best interests and that our patients are truly loved by us.
I joined Jed and Friends’ as Practice Manager in December 2022. I joined the Veterinary sector following a 20 year career in Human General Practice. I had previously worked with Dr Teresa Burns and her wonderful boy Jed. I have had the absolute honour of working alongside Dr Teresa to create Jed and Friends’ Veterinary Surgery in memory of beloved Jed. It has been an emotional and sometimes challenging journey to achieve our dream and we are incredibly proud of what we have created.
I thoroughly enjoy being part of the wonderful team here. Outside of work I have a wonderful cat called Molly (see picture) and I enjoy socialising, live music, cooking and reading. I love meeting all of your wonderful pets and giving them cuddles and strokes when they come to see us. When I have a break from the office, I can always be found in the wards chatting to and fussing our inpatients. This is my favourite part of every day!
I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2011 in my home country of Portugal, and I have been registered with the RCVS as a veterinary nurse in the UK since 2018. I joined Jed and Friends’ in January 2023 and it has been an amazing experience to be involved in a practice from day one. The team are amazing and I love getting to know the clients and their pets, creating lasting bonds with them and also helping to educate them.
In my spare time I have a variety of hobbies, including: going to the gym, relaxing at home playing video games or watching movies and TV shows, and I also love travelling. I am looking forward to utilising and further advancing my clinical skills at Jed and Friends’ and look forward to meeting all the patients and clients.
Ever since I was a child, I have loved animals. From a young age I watched my parents take in and provide care to different animals such as kittens and chicks and I grew fond of helping them. As I grew older my passion for helping animals grew too. I have studied and completed an animal care course at college. At home I have 2 cats called Bru Bear and Simba.
I joined Jed and Friends' recently, having previously had the great pleasure of working with Dr Teresa at another practice. I came to veterinary practice after working in the NHS for 16 years. Being part of a fantastic team, and meeting all our clients and their lovely pets makes this the best job in the world!
Outside of work I love 60's and 70's music, travelling to Spain and I am fascinated by criminal psychology.
